YEREVAN. – After everything that has happened in Armenia, around Armenia, in Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)], it is natural that changes are needed; time will tell how it will be. Former MP Aghvan Vardanyan on Wednesday told this to reporters in the National Assembly of Armenia, referring to the authorities’ statement on the necessity of holding snap parliamentary elections in the country, and then their statement that there was no broad public demand for such elections.

"My step [majority faction in parliament] once again declined from its own position. (…). The government tried to close the constitutional way, too (…). They have destroyed this country; they have brought it to the brink of destruction," he said.

Asked whether the statement of My Step faction on not holding early parliamentary elections had changed some plans of the opposition Homeland Salvation Movement—which demands the resignation of PM Nikol Pashinyan—, Vardanyan said. "I believe there will be new developments, new methods, much greater consolidation in the near future. Rest assured that the absolute majority of the [Armenian] society, contrary to the viewpoint of My Step, will demand the resignation of this man [i.e., Pashinyan]. This man will not go [away] voluntarily, but we will send [him away]; relax!”

And reflecting on second President Robert Kocharyan’s return to politics, Aghvan Vardanyan said: "Mr. Kocharyan has never left anything unfinished in his life. Rest assured: if he has entered the battle, then that battle will end successfully.”
