Armenia’s Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan today received newly appointed Swedish Ambassador Patrik Svensson and congratulated him on the start of his diplomatic mission in the country.

Ambassador Svensson expressed gratitude for the reception and stated that the accreditation of the Resident Ambassador of Sweden to Armenia opens new opportunities for expansion and deepening of the cooperation between the two countries.

The parties touched upon not only the existing bilateral cooperation, but also cooperation within the scope of the Eastern Partnership and further development of Armenia’s relations with the European Union. They also discussed security issues, including the situation created after the war that Azerbaijan unleashed against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the need for speedy return of Armenian prisoners of war.

The Deputy Prime Minister presented the course of economic reforms in Armenia and stressed the significance of the Economic Response Program that was adopted during last week’s session of the Armenian government. In this context, he attached importance to the active dialogue with Sweden for engagement of new investments, cooperation in the fields of science and innovation and the development of high technologies. The parties also thoroughly touched upon public governance reforms and considered the prospects for deepening of partnership in the healthcare sector.
