The lawmakers of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) and independent MPs Arman Babajanyan and Sofya Hovsepyan submitted a petition to lift the pretrial detention Vahan Badasyan, Chairman of the United Armenia party of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and a Karabakh war veteran. PAP MP Naira Zohrabyan informed about this on Facebook.
"But in this case, there should not have even been a need for such petition. Vahan Badasyan, who is a participant in all the Artsakh wars and fought against the [Turkish-made drones] Bayraktars from the very first day of the last war, suffered a severe wound, and it is clear—even with the naked eye—that the wound he sustained is incompatible with the arrest.
Vahan has to undergo another complicated operation in March, and keeping a person with such a severe injury under arrest is a clear torture under all international conventions, about which I have already informed international human rights organizations.
Vahan Badasyan is a political prisoner, and he should be in freedom forthwith," Zohrabyan added, in particular.
At Yerablur Military Pantheon in Yerevan on January 28, Vahan Badasyan had told reporters that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan should step down from power, and if he does not do so, they will do away with him physically, with weapons, and he will start organizing this.
A few hours after this statement, Vahan Badasyan was arrested.
