Three months have passed since the end of the war, but Armenia hasn’t lifted martial law yet. This is what deputy of the opposition Bright Armenia faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Arkady Khachatryan said during today’s question-and-answer session with government officials.

Khachatryan recalled that when the parliament was considering the issue of lifting martial law, deputies of the ruling My Step faction were assuring that it’s only a matter of days, but two months later, Armenia is still under martial law.

Khachatryan addressed the Prime Minister and asked him why martial law hasn’t been lifted yet and whether maintenance of martial law is politically motivated. He also asked about investments in a country that is still under martial law.

Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan answered the question by stating that maintenance of martial law or state of emergency can’t be an end in itself. “Martial law will be lifted as soon as there are no grounds for maintenance of martial law, and this depends on the security environment. There is no political subtext. As far as investments are concerned, I don’t believe martial law obstructs investments.”
