Russia will not artificially restrict the internet giants’ activities in the country, creating problems for Russian users; but in case of hostilities, it will have to respond, said President Vladimir Putin, Interfax reported.
"We [Russia] will not restrict anything until we have ours. We will restrict it only on the basis of specific situations," Putin said during a meeting with Russian media.
According to the Russian president, when internet companies will see that there are alternatives to them, they will start behaving differently.
He stressed that there are respective tools in Russia, noting that they have good prospects.
" We will deal with it. But we will not do anything that will create problems for our citizens and users. But, of course, we will not leave the [internet] attacks unanswered. I hope they will also realize this when they start losing [their] monopoly in the [internet] market," the Russian president added.
