Touching upon the package of bills that deputies of the National Assembly of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) have placed into circulation with the recommendation to declare Russian as another official language of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Minister of Labor, Social and Migration Affairs of Artsakh Mane Tandilyan posted the following on her Facebook page:

“Artsakh is and will be a land on which Armenian is spoken. There is no justification or need for changing the official language. The Armenians living in Artsakh, as well as Armenians in Armenia communicate in foreign languages according to desire and necessity, including officials. Considering the issue of language in Artsakh means considering whether the people of Artsakh are Armenian or not.

Armenians can learn languages, but it is not necessary to destroy your own identity and dignity while learning new languages. We shouldn’t enshrine our deficiency of the past decades with a law and not let the generations be able to correct our mistakes.”
