The European Union will purchase another 300 million doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and will invest almost a quarter-billion euros to fight new strains on the continent, AP reported

The European Commission said its second contract with Moderna includes an additional purchase of 150 million doses in 2021 and the option to purchase an additional 150 million in 2022. If by then the EU has sufficient supplies, it will consider donating vaccines to middle-income countries.

It also revealed plans to better detect new virus strains and accelerate the approval of adapted vaccines that can resist them.
