Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan today received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia Abbas Zohouri.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Mirzoyan stated that the enshrined agreements need to be implemented after the signing of the trilateral statement on ceasefire on November 9, 2020 and added that the speedy exchange of prisoners of war and other captured persons under the “all for all” principle is a priority.
Mirzoyan said the conflict can’t be considered ultimately resolved so long as the issue related to the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, that is, the right of the Armenians of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to self-determination, hasn’t been solved in the format of the Co-Chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group. He also emphasized that Iran can’t refrain from expressing its position on the Artsakh issue, taking into consideration the active involvement of other states of the region in favor of the Azerbaijani side during and after the hostilities.
Ambassador Zohouri informed that Iran welcomes the signing of the agreement on ceasefire in Artsakh and reaffirmed Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif’s view that the issue of return of prisoners of war must be solved quickly. The parties also discussed several issues related to further intensification of interparliamentary ties, enhancement of economic ties between the two countries and particularly the expansion of economic activities in Syunik Province.
