Israel is working with the United States to develop the new Arrow-4 missile defense system, another layer of a defense system built with an eye on Iran, Reuters reports.

Israeli anti-missile systems Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 are already operating as part of a multi-level system for destroying missiles flying in the atmosphere and in space.

Israeli leaders described Iran's ballistic missile program as a threat to Israel and the world. Iran claims its missile development is defensive in nature and aimed at deterring an attack.

Israel's defense ministry has announced that Israel Aerospace Industries will be the prime contractor for Arrow-4.
