Armenian Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan told RIA Novosti that he does not see the need to deploy a second Russian military base in Armenia.
"The current normative legal basis existing between our [two] countries also determines the status of only one Russian base [in Armenia] and regulates its activities," Harutyunyan added.
According to the 1995 interstate agreement, a Russian military base is deployed in Gyumri, Armenia. In 2010, amendments were made to this document, according to which the initial 25-year period of its deployment in Armenia was extended to 49 years—until 2044.
