The European Union is likely to impose new sanctions on Russia amid the arrest of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.

Brussels will not tolerate human rights violations and does not intend to calm down on this issue, Luxembourg's FM Jean Asselborn told RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland media group.

The new sanctions must be legally undeniable, Asselborn said.

The head of the Russian mission to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, in turn, noted that Moscow would be ready to respond in case of new illegitimate unilateral measures.
