YEREVAN. – In fact, the whole investigation process, the initiated criminal case has zero logic in it. When you do not understand the essence of the case, you do not understand what is being pursued, you see that there is no logic; you clearly realize that the motivation is at a completely different place. Karen Bekaryan, the co-founder of Quartet Media and an ex-MP of Armenia, said this Monday in a conversation with reporters, while leaving the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan, and regarding the criminal case on the fake social media account.

"After getting familiarized with the case materials, everything was already clear to me. There are certain provisions related to the secrecy of the investigation; therefore, I will not go into any details," Bekaryan added in particular.

When asked, according to him, why he was being persecuted, the former lawmaker said: "It is my daily job to present to our society—in an accessible, perceptible, civilized, polite word structure—where we [Armenia] got from, where we are going."

In turn, Bekaryan's lawyer, Gor Mikayelyan, told reporters that the court denied on the grounds of lack of a reasonable doubt the National Security Service’s (NSS) petition for the arrest of his client. "I find that the NSS cannot investigate this case objectively," he added in part.

As reported earlier, the NSS had detained former Chief of Staff of the National Assembly Ara Saghatelyan, co-founder of Quartet Media—and ex-MP— Karen Bekaryan, manager of the office of the "International Center for the Development of Parliamentarism" NGO Mher Avagyan, and citizen Aram Sargsyan along the lines of the aforesaid criminal case.

According to the court decision on Sunday, Saghatelyan and Sargsyan were arrested, whereas Avagyan was released.

All of them were detained under the Criminal Code articles on inciting hostility by an organized group, making public calls for violence by an organized group, publicly justifying or propagating violence, and violating the rules for publishing or disseminating information during martial law.
