Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian attended and delivered a speech at the Alliance for Multilateralism Ministerial online meeting, chaired by Germany and France. 

The meeting was attended by the heads of foreign affairs agencies of more than forty countries, MFA reported.

Minister Aivazian expressed gratitude to the organizers for initiating the meeting, expressing confidence that this is a good reason to address the challenges facing multilateralism and ways to overcome them. The Armenian FM presented to the meeting participants the situation resulting from the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, stressing that this aggression is partly the result of the multilateralism crisis and the failure of the international world order to prevent the use of force by irresponsible actors and their supporters. 

"Having grossly violated international humanitarian law and completely ignoring the key principles of multilateralism, Azerbaijan relied on the use of force as a means of resolving the conflict, thereby also violating the fundamental rights of the people of Artsakh, including the right to self-determination. Numerous cases of war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces, including those of an environmental nature, were recorded. The terrible consequences of this aggression still have to be addressed, since Azerbaijan continues to use humanitarian issues such as the return of prisoners of war, the provision of humanitarian aid and the protection of the Armenian cultural heritage as a tool," the FM said.

The FM also touched upon the issue of the military use of artificial intelligence, noting that the use of advanced technologies to create killer robots or drones has led to disastrous consequences. "Azerbaijan used these technologies to bomb the church of the historic Armenian city of Shushi and the maternity hospital, among other civilian infrastructures located in Artsakh. These facts prove once again that international control over the military use of artificial intelligence should be a priority."

The meeting participants also discussed issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change. "Armenia will continue to support regional and international cooperation to address these and other global challenges," the FM noted.
