President Armen Sarkissian made an appeal on the current situation in Armenia.
According to him, "when we have not yet overcome the consequences of the war unleashed against Artsakh, when there are thousands of victims and wounded, when there are serious regional threats, we, unfortunately, again find ourselves in an extremely explosive situation, which is fraught with unpredictable consequences for our state and statehood and can lead to irreversible losses.
There is martial law in the country. The external threat is real - the ceasefire statement is not a peace treaty. Numerous challenges facing Armenia and Artsakh.
I call on everyone - government agencies, law enforcement agencies, political forces, all citizens to:
- exercise restraint and common sense. Each unweighted word or action increases the tension and deepens the crisis even further.
- do not give in to provocations and refrain from appeals to hatred and intolerance; our people cannot afford a split, we must reject any attempt to destabilize the state and the threat to statehood.
- to act exclusively within the Constitution.
Once again reaffirming the role of the presidential institution as a balancing structure, I initiate urgent steps to reduce tensions and find ways to peacefully resolve the situation," his statement added. "The steps leading the country into the abyss of shocks will be disrespectful to the memory of thousands of our children who died in the war.
I call on all of you to be vigilant, sobriety and restraint."
