Ishkhan Saghatelyan—a representative of the Armenia Supreme Body of the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation-ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party and coordinator of the Homeland Salvation Movement, which demands the resignation of Pashinyan—stated that they will demand that President Armen Sarkissian not sign Pashinyan's petition submitted to him to dismiss Onik Gasparyan, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces
"The petition for dismissal of the head of the General Staff is on the President's table. The President has stated that he will not sign it; but that is not enough. In case of not signing [it] within three days, the head of the General Staff will be considered dismissed [by force of law]. It is necessary for the RA President to submit an objection within the framework of the law, as it [the petition] is unconstitutional, and to submit [it] to the Constitutional Court.
At this moment, the main demand of all of us should be that the RA President does not give in to the prime minister's blackmails and does not take that step, formulates his objection very clearly, sends the document to the Constitutional Court.
We propose to march to the President's residence to present our demand, to demand a meeting [with him] so that this demand becomes a reality. We demand from the President, as the guarantor of the Constitution and the head of the country, to uphold the Constitution and not to give in to the blackmail of that lunatic [i.e., meaning Pashinyan].
The political agenda of the Republic of Armenia will be dictated from this square. Nikol has no power in Armenia," Saghatelyan stated.
