We talk about the defeat in the past, but today the problem is not only the defeat it brought, but we have much worse expectations than what happened. The end of defeat is not visible. Mkhitar Zakaryan, Mayor of Meghri, Armenia, stated this in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am.

"We do not attribute the activeness of Syunik [Province] to the fact that our people are more clear-headed or smart, but if the problems have to be described to residents of other the provinces [of Armenia] the, residents see them every day before their eyes. And if this incompetent government remains [in power], we [the people of Syunik] will be the first to experience its negative consequences. That is why subconsciously the people [of Syunik] are more sensitive to these problems. I am convinced that our Armenian people have already been convinced that in a warring country with such challenges, it is unacceptable the leadership of a person [i.e., PM Nikol Pashinyan] who is miles away from the army, is impulsive, has to work for the state for one day in his entire life. And not only him, but also his [political] team, his leadership, leads us to destruction," Zakaryan said.

According to the mayor, the Armenian army is one of the cornerstones of the state, and it has the right to make such statements—that is, demanding the resignation of Pashinyan and his government—if it sees a threat to the state. "I welcome their move. We all accept that the military is at the forefront of patriotism; that is, the patriotic leaders are concentrated there, and it is very natural that they also express disagreement with the government that has brought the country to the brink of collapse," Zakaryan added.

He considers President Armen Sarkissian to be a participant in all these negative events, but believes that the President can atone for his sins by not signing Pashinyan’s proposal to dismiss the serving Chief of General Staff of Armenia. "I cannot yet assess whether these are treacherous or ignorant authorities. When they leave, there will be a new political struggle. It is not the case that if they leave, the former ones will come; we do not think so," he said.

The mayor of Meghri expressed hope that PM Nikol Pashinyan's resignation will come soon, but if the need arises, a rally may be organized in Meghri demanding Pashinyan's resignation.
