Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has got COVID-19 vaccination, AFP reported.

Modi received the topical Covaxin vaccine. The vaccine, developed by Bharat Biotech, is one of only two approved for use in India, although data on late-stage trials in 25,800 volunteers have yet to be published. Despite criticism from some doctors and healthcare professionals, the Indian regulator and the company insist that it is safe to use.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India is 11.1 million. The government, which has set an ambitious goal of vaccinating 300 million people by the end of June, has provided vaccinations to all residents over 60 and over 45 with serious illnesses. Since the start of the vaccination campaign in January, 14 million people have been vaccinated.
