Armenian News-NEWS.am spoke with Vardan Balayan, the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) President's representative-at-large. Below is the text of this interview.

Mr. General, in the post-war period, perhaps one of the most difficult and accountable obligations has fallen on your shoulders. It is about the work with the relatives of the fallen, the missing, the captives. Do you think that the work being done in that regard in our republic is at a sufficient level?

In fact, what you want us to talk about is one of the toughest topics of the [recent Artsakh] war. The feelings I have when communicating with the relatives of our compatriots are indescribable. It would not be right to say that so far we have managed to carry out the minimum and meet the expectations of the parents who lost their sons and of the relatives of the missing. I do not think that what has been done is enough to give a good or bad assessment to our work. I am convinced that even if there is one unknown fate, the work done is incomplete. I assess my obligations as urgent until the return of our last captive compatriot and the clarification of the fate of the [last] missing person.

Realizing the necessity and urgency of your work during this period, however, many people are probably interested in your view towards the crisis situation between the RA [Republic of Armenia] General Staff of the AF [Armed Forces] and the political authorities.

Assessing the existing moods in the pan-Armenian field, I must say the following: I am very concerned about the internal political developments taking place in the RA; the concern of my people is my concern. Today, by the will of fate, I am entrusted to serve on the front of my Homeland where I am today. My greatest service to my people is to fulfill with honor the tasks set before me. I strive to do them with honor. And in overcoming the crisis, I expect common sense and the will to resolve problems.
