I believe it was my duty to make such a call to judges during those days when passions were flaring so that the courts in Armenia wouldn’t be politicized in any way. This is what Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia Ruben Vardazaryan said during a discussion on the election of judges for the Court of Cassation in parliament today, responding to deputy of the ruling My Step bloc Maria Karapetyan’s question about the sensational statement that Vardazaryan had made.

According to him, his statement was more of a wake-up call than a political statement, like many people think. “My call was appropriate and served its goal because now courts are more independent than ever,” Vardazaryan said. He also clarified that he had used the phrase “whining judges” with the expectation that the whole judiciary has been concerned about this issue for the past year-and-a-half.

“Many judges have asked me if Armenia has whining judges. We need to prove to the people that there are no whining judges in Armenia,” Vardazaryan added.

Let us remind that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was the one who used the phrase “whining judges”.
