In some sense, we led negotiations and, in essence, the Prime Minister doesn’t link the problem with the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces to the snap elections, but our political party does. This is what leader of the opposition Bright Armenia faction of the National Assembly Edmon Marukyan told reporters after his meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today, adding that they had talked about the problem with the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, politicization of the Armed Forces and, on the backdrop of this, the holding of snap elections.

“There is currently no agreement on any issue. As far as I understand, there will also be a meeting with leader of Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan. Therefore, after the meeting with Tsarukyan or when Prosperous Armenia Party expresses its stance, there will be more negotiations,” he said.

Asked why no agreement was reached, Marukyan said the following: “There is a need for more talks. The most important thing is that I’m very concerned about the process unfolding between the leadership of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the government. The Armed Forces must not be politicized in any way. Elections are the most fundamental issue and will help get us out of the crisis.”

Marukyan also noted that there won’t be any point in a discussion, if one of the two opposition parties doesn’t refuse to nominate its candidate for Prime Minister.
