The Civil Aviation Committee (Committee) of Armenia has issued a statement regarding the Fly Armenia Airways airline’s Boeing 737-300 aircraft, which has been missing for about a week.

The statement notes in particular that under the lease contract, the aforesaid airline is the operator of this aircraft, and is therefore accountable for matters relating to it.

This aircraft was not issued a certificate of airworthiness, during which time, it was at a service hangar in Tallinn, Estonia.

But taking into account the fact that not all the works at the above-mentioned service hangar were carried out and there was need to complete the unfinished works at the service hangar in Hostomel, Ukraine, the Committee gave the appropriate permission for a one-time flight from Tallinn to Kyiv.

However, the flight crew flew to the Varna (Bulgaria) airport, then headed to Sharjah (UAE), but landed at Iran's Mehrabad International Airport.

The Committee took measures to find out the circumstances of the situation and its reasons.

According to the flight crew and the Iranian aviation authorities, the reason for the plane’s landing at Mehrabad was technical—in particular, there were problems with its fuel.

The Committee is conducting an investigation in this regard..

Also, the National Security Service of Armenia has filed a criminal case and a respective investigation is underway.

As a result of the investigation carried out by the Committee, the relevant documents were provided to the law enforcement agencies.

Corresponding representatives of the Committee are currently in Iran to discuss the transfer of the plane to Armenia.

A preliminary agreement has been reached to move the plane from Tehran to Yerevan.
