Azerbaijani soldiers continue to desecrate Armenian monuments in the territories that are now under the control of Azerbaijan. A video showing how Azerbaijani soldiers destroy the statue of Hovhannes (Ivan) Tevosyan has been posted on the Internet, Sputnik Armenia reports.

Tevosyan was born in Shushi to a family of tailors and craftsmen. A few years after his birth, the family escaped from Shushi and settled in Baku where Tevosyan graduated from the Orthodox Parish School and the three-year school of commerce. Upon graduation, he worked at the oil company of Volga-Baku and studied at a preparatory school in the evenings.

Tevosyan has held the positions of Minister of Metallurgic Industry of the USSR and Vice-Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers, the Minister of Ferrous Metallurgy of the USSR. In 1956, he became Ambassador of the USSR to Japan and served until his death.

This isn’t the first case of the Azerbaijanis’ vandalism against Armenian historical and cultural monuments. In November 2020, Azerbaijani servicemen also destroyed the cupola and belfry of the Green Chapel in Shushi. On November 16, they desecrated and partially destroyed the St. Mary’s Church in Mekhakavan village and crushed the cross placed on top. The monument to Vazgen Sargsyan was also desecrated.
