YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia writes: According to Zhoghovurd daily’s information, the issue of making amendments in the Law on Language remains heated in Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)].

The thing is that the parliamentary opposition is not in favor of establishing the Russian language as an official language in Artsakh, as Armenian is. According to the opposition, the law should not define Russian as a second official language, but should note that Russian also can be used—along with Armenian—in Artsakh.

Zhoghovurd daily was informed that the Artsakh government has already given a positive conclusion to the draft and sent [it] to the Artsakh [National Assembly] Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs, where the matter shall be discussed next week.

According to our information, the opposition MPs of the parliament will propose that the version acceptable to them be put on the agenda of the parliament. Otherwise, they are going to vote against the bill.
