The termination of the powers of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia Onik Gasparyan and his dismissal are unconstitutional. This is what expert in constitutional law Gohar Meloyan told reporters today, adding that neither the Prime Minister nor the President had the power to terminate his powers and dismiss him.
The expert also believes that even though President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian tried to maneuver in the beginning, this didn’t stop him from collaborating with the Prime Minister. According to her, the two reached certain agreements that didn’t let the President forward the petition of the Prime Minister to dismiss Gasparyan to the Constitutional Court, which could have declared the petition as unconstitutional. Meloyan added that all efforts were made for this.
