Arman Arakelyan, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing an Azerbaijani in Russia, was extradited to Armenia on Saturday. His lawyer Artur Dashyan informed Armenian News-NEWS.am about this.

"The Armenian side was causing big problems for this long. The Ministry of Justice was obstructing from 2018 to 2020. A decision was made during [justice minister Rustam] Badasyan's term, but the coronavirus-related restrictions obstructed, then the [44-day Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)] war started, and finally now it was managed to return Arman to the homeland, where he will continue to serve his sentence," Dashyan said.

Prior to that, Arakelyan was serving his sentence in the prison in Murmansk, Russia, where, according to his lawyer, his life could have been at risk because the Azerbaijanis could have taken revenge upon him.

Arman Arakelyan, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing an Azerbaijani in Russia, was already serving six years in aforesaid prison. He had killed the said Azerbaijani when the latter had cursed—in Arakelyan's café—at the Armenians and broken the pictures of Armenian heroes hanging on the wall of this café.
