YEREVAN. – I assess the statement by the president of Azerbaijan as a cynical statement, and I do not want to respond to the president of Azerbaijan with the same cynical tone and vocabulary. Armen Khachatryan, a member of the majority My Step faction in the National Assembly of Armenia, told this to reporters in the parliament Monday, referring to Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev's statement that they will force Armenia to open a "corridor" for them toward the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan via Syunik Province of Armenia.
"But I repeat, it is a cynical expression. No one can force us [Armenia] to do anything right now. I believe the main reason for the statement is that Azerbaijan's expectations have not been met in many issues related to roads and so on, although no point has been violated by the Republic of Armenia. Azerbaijan may have had other ideas, which led to such a cynical expression by Aliyev," Khachatryan added.
In any case, the MP noted that when thinking about responding to Aliyev in the same tone, one should take into account that the Armenians still have captives in Azerbaijan.
