Berlin is in favor of extending the 2016 migration agreement between the European Union and Turkey, ANA-MPA reported quoting the official representative of the German government Steffen Seibert.
Berlin is negotiating with Ankara on the terms of a new migration pact, in which Turkey wants to include an expanded customs union with the EU and greater freedom in the distribution of EU funding for refugees, he said.
The agreement is beneficial to both parties, the EU member states, and Turkey, he said noting that the main idea is to guarantee adequate protection of refugees in Turkey and create prospects there so that they have no reasons for illegal immigration to the EU.
According to him, for the German government it makes sense to extend this important agreement for both parties.
