The G-7 countries have agreed to increase the International Monetary Fund's reserves by about $ 650 billion through a new allocation of the fund's special drawing rights, Japan's Kyodo news agency reported.

The increased reserves will be used to fund a package of measures to assist emerging economies hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The financial leaders of the G7 countries will sign the deal at an online meeting on Friday.
