YEREVAN. – Hraparak daily of Armenia writes: In the non-Soros wing of [the ruling] My Step [bloc], they tend to go to the [snap parliamentary] elections [on June 20] under to the old—that is, the current—Electoral Code, as the rating electoral system is beneficial to all the authorities.

However, we were told that, nevertheless, they will adopt the new Electoral Code [(EC)] before the elections, the draft of which has been put into circulation since March 9. It will most likely be included in the agenda of the forthcoming sittings of the NA [National Assembly]. "It will be adopted, but it will be noted in one line that the law enters into force as of January 1, 2022."

We were also informed that the EC will be decisive in terms of the participation of some parties—for example, the Armenian National Congress [(ANC)]—in the elections. Discussions are going on at the ANC, but if they go to the elections under to the old code, the rating electoral system, the ANC will not participate. First, because they do not have that much finances, nor [do they have] rating candidates, whereas in the case of proportional [representation system], they can rely on [their leader and First President] Levon Ter-Petrosyan's personal [popularity] rating.
