During a conversation with Armenian News-NEWS.am, deputy head of Martuni community of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Vadim Danielyan said the 41-year-old woman who set herself on fire in Martuni had health problems and didn’t want to continue her treatment.

“She had a normal family and didn’t have any mental health problems. This came as a surprise. The hypothesis is that she had some health problems and didn’t want to continue treatment, and she set herself on fire so that she wouldn’t cause her family trouble,” Danielyan said, adding that the woman was married with two boys.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Artsakh reports that on March 20, 2021 the Martuni police division received a report stating that the burnt body of the woman was found in the yard of a house located on a street in Martuni. Police had found a letter allegedly left by the woman, and the husband had found an empty bottle of benzene.

The territorial investigation department has launched a criminal case under the elements of indirectly leading a person to suicide or attempt of suicide intentionally or negligently through threat, cruel treatment or regularly humiliating personal dignity.

Expert examinations have been designated, and preliminary investigation is underway.
