During today’s session, the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) considered the nomination of a candidate for Human Rights Defender of Artsakh.

Secretary of the Democratic Party of Artsakh faction of the National Assembly Gegham Stepanyan nominated Chief of Staff of the Office of the Human Rights Defender, Executive Secretary Gegham G. Stepanyan for the position and mentioned that the latter has relevant professional and human qualities.

Gegham G. Stepanyan graduated from the International Relations Department of the Faculty of International Relations at Yerevan State University in 2014, served in the Defense Army of Artsakh (2009-11) and obtained his Master of Arts in International Relations and Political Science from the American University of Armenia in 2016.

From December 2016 until May 2020, he served as an assistant to the Speaker of the National Assembly.

With three “in favor” and one vote of abstinence, the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs approved Stepanyan’s nomination, which will be put to a vote during the plenary session.
