Armenia’s incumbent authorities fought for the right of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to self-determination and determination of the status of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic until the end. This is what Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said in response to a question from deputy of the opposition Bright Armenia Party Anna Kostanyan during today’s session of the National Assembly.

Kostanyan particularly asked the Prime Minister to clarify what he meant when he said he was starting from scratch and not continuing the course of the former authorities whenever he would respond to all questions regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process after the ‘velvet revolution’.

Pashinyan stated that the stance of the incumbent authorities of Armenia was enshrined during the joint session of the Security Councils of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh held on March 13, 2019 in Stepanakert.

“At the time, we clearly declared that we can’t imagine negotiations without Stepanakert’s participation, and we are certain that only after the status of Nagorno-Karabakh is determined will an ultimate settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict be possible, and it will be determined through exercise of the right of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to self-determination,” the head of government clarified.
