International relations expert Suren Sargsyan posted the following on his Facebook page:

“What does the pullout of US troops from Afghanistan have to do with us Armenians?

President Biden has decided to completely pull out US troops from Afghanistan this year and put an end to the longest war in US history. Let me go ahead and say the following: Azerbaijan was strategically significant for the US because the supplies of the Northern Distribution Network would pass through the territory of Azerbaijan. Basically, Azerbaijan was a key hub for the US for the delivery of all types of cargo to US troops stationed in Afghanistan through the territory of Azerbaijan.

At the expense of those transfers, Baku would gain political, diplomatic and economic dividends, and in many cases, Washington would shut an eye on different kinds of actions in Baku.

From now on, Azerbaijan’s strategic significance for the US will change.”
