In Egypt, 17 people were executed in a case known in local media as the Kerdasa massacre. Among those executed, 80-year-old Koran teacher Abdel Halim Gabriel.

Authorities carried out death sentences at dawn at Wadi Al-Natrun prison in complete secrecy and without prior notice to families, according to MEM.

All 17 men were convicted of killing 13 police officers during the 2013 attack on a police station in the Giza suburb of Kerdasa.
