During its session yesterday, the newly elected board of the Armenian National Congress political party decided to run in the snap parliamentary elections to be held on June 20 (the first name on the electoral list is first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan, and the campaign headquarters will be headed by the political party’s vice-president Levon Zurabyan).

In this regard, the board of the political party has adopted the following statement:

“Armenia is in an extreme situation. Armenian statehood, the protection of citizens, the country’s borders and territorial integrity and the existence of Artsakh are at risk. The incumbent authorities, leading the country and people to a major military defeat, proved its impotence to govern the state. The current management crisis is becoming more intricate due to the current domestic political crisis and an escalated conflict. In essence, the people are offered to choose between the failed incumbent authorities and forces seeking to restore the oppressive criminal-oligarchic system. The majority of the public are in despair due to this selection and fail to view the elections as a way to solve the crisis.

In this situation, the Armenian National Congress political party, guided by its responsibility for the destiny of the state and people and paying heed to the impulses from various sectors of society, has decided to run in the snap elections of the National Assembly called to be held on June 20.

We are certain that it is possible to form a potent and just government in Armenia. There has to be realism, sensibility, rational political thought in Armenia again, as well as the courage to be honest with the people and present the truth to the people. Only in this case will it be possible to fulfill the wishes of the people and advance.”
