Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev today held phone talks during which they discussed the situation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.

The press service of the Kremlin reported that the parties continued to discuss the situation surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh and placed emphasis on the practical issues to ensure stability and security in the region, in accordance with the letter of the trilateral statements signed on November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021.

“In this context, the focus was on the recent incident that took place on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The general disposition was that the issue will be resolved only through political diplomacy. The Russian party continues to make mediation efforts and provide consulting targeted at implementation of the agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the launch of delimitation and demarcation of the state border.”

The parties also exchanged views on the key provisions of the bilateral agenda. “Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude for the supply of the Russian coronavirus vaccine. The parties expressed their mutual interest in the deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation in all sectors of mutual interest,” the press release reads.
