President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian has made a statement on the events that have been unfolding on the borders of Armenia over the past few days and the incursion of Azerbaijanis in the sectors of Syunik and Gegharkunik Provinces.

The statement states the following: “Dear compatriots, these days we are focused on our borders. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces have violated the border of the Republic of Armenia in the sections of Syunik and Gegharkunik Provinces and have illegally been in the territory of our country for a few days now.

In this situation, it is particularly important for the government and state institutions to be unconditionally responsible for getting the country out of the crisis. I urge the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the National Security Service to use all their efforts and take the strictest measures against encroachments on the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and border violations.

What is also important is the use of the diplomatic arsenal, with its full potential. Armenia needs to increase its international reputation and deepen cooperation with international partners and allied relations, as well as use all the tools of conventional and public diplomacy, engage the Armenian Diaspora and use all the resources.

The public needs to be informed about the unfolding processes in a timely manner and precisely, as well as be rest assured that it is protected and that the State is performing its functions, regardless of political or other factors.

In this situation, once again, the imperative is pan-national unity of Armenians in Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora. Only through unity will it be possible to solve all the problems related to security, economy, domestic politics, etc.

As a state and nation, we Armenians need to have one agenda, that is, the pan-national agenda. All Armenians of Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora need to work within the scope of that agenda. Only a strong, sustainable, united and consolidated Armenia can represent and protect the interests of the Armenians of Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora.”
