Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan today had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin.

As reported the National Assembly of Armenia, the deputy parliamentary speaker shared his views on the current political developments in Armenia ahead of the upcoming snap parliamentary elections.

The parties underscored the importance of the return of Nagorno-Karabakh to a peaceful life, as well as the efforts that the Russian Federation is making within the scope of the friendly duties to stabilize the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. They also highlighted their interest in resolving the border incident quickly through political and diplomatic means.

The interlocutors stated that the creation of conditions for long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus is in the interests of both Armenia and Russia and that the activities of the task force set up for implementation of the trilateral statements of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan (November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021) and jointly chaired by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan are targeted at the creation of those conditions.
