Acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Avet Adonts today received Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons Paul Gavan (Ireland), who is the rapporteur for “The Humanitarian Consequences of the Conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan” and is in Armenia with a fact-finding mission to prepare the report.

As reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, greeting the guest, Adonts presented the issues related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, underscored the importance of the format of the Co-Chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group and attached importance to the entry of competent bodies of international organizations, including the competent bodies of the Council of Europe into Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), considering the creation of artificial barriers unacceptable.

The parties highlighted the need for the immediate return of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians who are kept as hostages in Azerbaijan. In this context, Azerbaijan’s failure to implement the interim measures of the European Court of Human Rights and the failure to cooperate with the ECHR were considered unacceptable.

Presenting the situation created on the state border of Armenia as a result of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces’ provocative actions, Adonts viewed the attempts of encroachment on the sovereign territory of Armenia through violation of international law as inadmissible.
