US President Joe Biden has agreed to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un only if the latter renounces nuclear weapons, CNBC reported.
If Kim Jong Un fulfills certain obligations related to the nuclear arsenal, it will aggravate the situation.
At the same time, Biden added that Pyongyang must undertake the task of de-escalation before this meeting. For that, according to the American leader, preliminary talks at a lower level will be required.
Biden said he will ensure that his team meet with their counterparts in the DPRK and explain to them what the US intentions are.
He also stated that he will not allow Kim Jong Un to use this meeting to legitimize himself. “I would not give him all he’s looking for, international recognition as legitimate,” said the US president.
