The US Treasury Department has officially announced the imposing of sanctions against some companies involved in the North Stream 2 project, as well as a number of ships involved in the construction of this natural gas pipeline, DW reported.

It became known Wednesday that the administration of US President Joseph Biden had imposed and immediately suspended sanctions against the operator of the North Stream 2 project and its CEO Mathias Warnig; this was stated in the US State Department report to the Congress. Washington explained its respective position by "national interests."
