Ahead of the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption deems it necessary to remind all political parties and alliances running in the elections that deputies aren’t allowed to carry out entrepreneurial activities, hold any office within commercial organizations and violate the requirements of incompatibility with the mandate of a deputy in any way.

The Commission told Armenian News-NEWS.am that violating the incompatibility requirements serves as a ground for termination of the powers of a deputy.

The requirement of incompatibility with the mandate of a deputy of Armenia, including the ban on entrepreneurial activity were set by the Constitution in 2005. This constitutional provision ensures maintenance of the principle of separation of powers and checks-and-balances and the coalescence of politics and business.

The Commission is consistent with observance of the incompatibility requirements and urges all political parties to strictly observe the provisions of the Constitution before forming electoral lists and during future activities.

In 2020, the Commission conducted a study on observance of the incompatibility requirements for officials and verified the possible involvement of officials within commercial organizations and their management bodies.
