Whoever wants Armenians to be in the same situation that Syunik Province and Gegharkunik Province are in, they are free to vote for the incumbent political authorities. This is what second President of Armenia, leader of the Armenia alliance of political parties Robert Kocharyan told reporters today.

“They try to spread information according to which there might be a higher risk of war if I come to power, and I assume that this will be the main statement that will be made during the election campaign. The most peaceful period in Armenia was the period between 1998 and 2008. In 1998, there were people who were trying to convince citizens that there will be a war if I come to power, but what happened was the opposite,” Kocharyan said.

According to him, any military encroachment on the country is impossible, if the country leads the right policy.

“Armenia experienced a war and suffered an embarrassing defeat since such fundamental things were undermined. They were doing stupid things, and the adversary got the impression that it is the moment when it can solve the issue through war. Whatever bad thing that could have happened to us with the signed document has already happened. The document will remain unchanged because Armenia transferred Karvachar and Lachin to the enemy, but we will prevent the emergence of any document that will create additional problems,” Kocharyan said, adding that what was signed was a capitulation act, not an agreement.

“Yes, I’m certain that Armenia can get the maximum out of the current situation. We need to be honest and say that this agreement was a capitulation act. I simply believe the Russian side spared us Armenians and didn’t refer to it as a capitulation act,” Kocharyan said.
