We’re going to the elections with our team and our resources, we know everyone. This is what leader of the opposition Bright Armenia faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Edmon Marukyan told reporters in parliament today, touching upon the question about his political party’s list of candidates.

“Our political party has always been open for people who are non-partisan, but have knowledge and experience in specific sectors. However, they are mainly people who aren’t public figures. There are no businessmen on our list,” he said.

When told that there will be businessmen on the ruling party’s list of candidates and that the ruling party has made an announcement about this, Marukyan said the following: “I can bring examples of how the opposition and civil society would criticize the former authorities, telling them that they were bringing businessmen to parliament and that business and politics aren’t separated from each other. One of the promises of the participants of the revolution was to separate business from politics. If the ruling party brings businessmen to parliament, it will have failed to fulfill another one of its promises. There are already talks about electoral bribes. If this is the case, nobody will remember the achievements made after the revolution. The authorities and the forces with unlimited resources can always distribute funds. In this regard, the authorities need to show if they have the will to disallow electoral fraud or not.”
