When we talk about the transfer of the villages that deputy of the ruling My Step faction of the National Assembly Vahe Ghalumyan mentioned, we need to understand that we’re talking about Armenia’s buffer zone. This is what MP Naira Zohrabyan told reporters in parliament today, adding that if those villages are transferred, Armenians will have to visit Jermuk through the territory of Azerbaijan.

Zohrabyan stated that it’s early to talk about demarcation and that there only needs to be adjustment of the line of contact so long as the issue related to the status of Nagorno-Karabakh remains unsolved, taking into consideration the fact that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is, in essence, demanding that Armenia sign a document on recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as a part of Azerbaijan.

On May 24, deputy of the ruling My Step alliance Vahe Ghalumyan declared that, according to Armenia’s map, the Barkhudarlu, Sofulu, Heyrimly and Voskepar enclaves in the Tavush Province of Armenia are Azerbaijani territories, yet didn’t rule out the fact that the to-be-established commission might decide that those enclaves are Armenian enclaves.

Azerbaijan is not the legal successor of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan and the references to “Soviet borders” are inappropriate. What is even more surprising is the fact that the deputy of the ruling party doesn’t mention that the enclaves are Armenian enclaves.
