Let each person vote with his conscience. There is a risk of a civil war. There are bad authorities and years of dictatorships. It’s easy to get out of them, but the most dangerous thing is civil war. This is what first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan said in an interview with Petros Ghazaryan on Armenian Public Television.

“Supporters of acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan are about to battle each other. This will grow deeper, and I’m afraid that the upcoming elections might turn into direct clashes, if not a civil war. It’s a matter of life or death for both sides,” he said.

Touching upon the snap parliamentary elections, the President stated that, politically speaking, even though it’s abnormal that 27 political parties have submitted applications to run in the elections, this is democracy. “This parliamentary system will destroy Armenia. Armenia needs to switch back to the presidential system of governance. There are options for scenarios after the elections. Either Pashinyan or Robert [Robert Kocharyan] or anyone else wins, which is not very likely, or nobody wins, and Armenia remains in a motley parliamentary system. Let each person vote with conscience,” he added.
