Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan today met with President of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Berge Setrakian and AGBU Armenia President Vasken Yacoubian.

As reported the Office of the Human Rights Defender, during the meeting, Tatoyan presented the war crimes that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces committed during the war that took place in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in September-November 2020 and talked about the urgency of the return of Armenian captives being kept in Azerbaijan.

The interlocutors stated that the Azerbaijani authorities are artificially delaying and politicizing the process, grossly violating the rights of the captives and their families and causing suffering. He also presented the results of the fact-finding mission of the Office of the Human Rights Defender and emphasized the unlawful presence of Azerbaijani soldiers in the territory of Armenia.

During the meeting, the Ombudsman highly appreciated the activities of AGBU Armenia and particularly the role of the AGBU in analyzing Azerbaijan’s war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the war in September-November 2020 and presenting them to the world.

Setrakian highly appreciated the work of the Human Rights Defender and noted that the AGBU is also following news about border security and the current situation in Armenia.
