YEREVAN. – Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, who is in the Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan on a working visit, met with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, the Armenian President's Office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Tokayev said that although Sarkissian's visit is a working one, it is still of great importance, as it will be an additional impetus for cooperation between the two countries. "Armenia is a friendly country for us. Relations and cooperation between our countries are based on traditions," he said. "Naturally, we are interested in this cooperation not remaining in its place; that is why the governments and relevant agencies of our countries are working to achieve this goal.

We [Kazakhstan and Armenia] work and cooperate in an important integration organization: the Eurasian Economic Union. We are a CSTO member, we closely cooperate within the CIS, the UN, the OSCE, and other organizations. I believe all this should have a positive continuation."

President Sarkissian, in turn, particularly said: "Although our countries are physically at a certain distance from each other, in the 21st century our countries are becoming much closer thanks to trade, new technologies, artificial intelligence, information technologies. Of course, the scope of cooperation opportunities is very large (…). I would like the cooperation to be much deeper and more comprehensive."

Subsequently, the Presidents of Armenia and Kazakhstan spoke about cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union and the CSTO.

Also, the Armenian President touched upon the problems and challenges that arose in Armenia and the region in the period following the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war last fall.

The Presidents of Armenia and Kazakhstan then continued their discussions privately. These discussions also focused on bilateral relations and the regional situation.
