The seven Iranian presidential candidates met in the first round of a nationwide televised debate on Saturday, about two weeks before the election, Tasnim news reported.

According to the publication, today's debate, known as one of the most-watched programs in Iran's broadcasting history, revolves around economic issues. Each of the candidates was given an equal number of minutes to speak. The candidates outlined their plans to solve the main economic problems of the country if they took office.

Seven candidates are competing for the top leadership position in Iran. They were selected by the Constitutional Council from more than 590 presidential contenders.
