By the assignment of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, a task force has been sent to Syunik Province of Armenia for additional fact-finding in order to develop a concept paper on a buffer zone in all the sectors of the border with Azerbaijan.

As reported the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, according to the Ombudsman, the buffer zone is necessary in order to guarantee the rights of Armenia’s borderline residents and the country’s citizens, and there must not be Azerbaijani soldiers, flags and panels next to the villages of Syunik and Gegharkunik Provinces and in-between the villages of Syunik Province.

The Ombudsman added that the current situation is a violation of the vital rights of Armenia’s borderline residents.
